Below
are some of the more commonly encountered problems regarding VSA
v1.0/v2.0.
The following information does not apply to VSA v3.0 or later. If you don't find what you need here, feel free to contact us at TechSupport@BrookshireSoftware.com.
- The wave file takes a
long time to load.
- I am unable to set the
start position for events because it is grayed.
- How do I change the
default position for a servo?
- I get an error message
"Access is denied" when I start play or try to edit an
event.
- The start time and stop
times are reset to 65536 (or similar).
- On lengthy routines
(+10min), I find that VSA displays an "Out of Memory"
message.
- The screen becomes
garbled during scrolling past 32,000 frames.
- Everything appears to be
working fine, but I cannot get the servos to move.
- I lost my copy of VSA. Can I
obtain another?
- When I try to set the
COM port, the wrong port is selected.
- When converting an MP3
file to RAPU2 format, the audio is played too fast on the RAPU2.
1. The wave file
takes a long time to load.
This is probably normal. VSA
searches through the entire wave file each time it is loaded.
Depending on the speed of your PC and the size of the wave file, this
make take a few minutes. Reducing the sampling rate of the
wave file and converting it from stereo- to mono-channeling can speed
up the process in most cases. You may wish to consider switching
to MP3 files, as they typically load faster.
2. I am unable to
set the start position for events because it is grayed.
This is normal. Each event's
start position is defined by the most previous event's stop
position. If you need to change an event's start position, you
need to create another prior event to move the servo into the correct
position. If an event is the first event for a particular servo,
you can change the default position in the "Settings" dialog
(press F3).
3. How do I change
the default position for a servo?
In versions previous to VSA Standard,
you cannot change the default position. Otherwise, press F3 to
access the "Settings" dialog and adjust the default
position.
4. I get an error
message "Access is denied" when I start play or try to edit an
event.
When you receive this message, it means
that Windows has denied VSA access to the serial port. After
receiving this message, operation will continue without trying to
access the serial port. Windows may deny access for several
reasons.
- Another device may be using the
serial port. Check to be sure no programs are running in the
background (a common problem is the Palm-Pilot "HotSync"
manager).
- The serial port is improperly
configured/does not exist. Go to Start | Settings... |
Control Panel and choose the system icon. Click on the
"Device Manager" tab and select "Ports (COM &
LPT)." Be sure that the serial port you are trying to
use is correctly configured.
- VSA is trying to use the wrong
serial port. Go to Tools | Settings... in VSA and then click
the "Hardware" tab. Select the proper port.
5. The start time
and stop times are reset to 65536 (or similar).
On a limited number of systems, an
event's times may reset to 65536. Please contact TechSupport@BrookshireSoftware.com
for further information about your system.
6. On lengthy
routines (+10min), I find that VSA displays an "Out of Memory"
message.
This bug was fixed in v1.42.
Please contact TechSupport@BrookshireSoftware.com
for fix and update details.
7. The screen
becomes garbled during scrolling past 32,000 frames.
This bug was fixed in v1.42.
Please contact TechSupport@BrookshireSoftware.com
for fix and update details.
8. Everything
appears to be working fine, but I cannot get the servos to move.
- The Mini-SSC LED is blinking during
playback. In this case, the Mini-SSC is indeed receiving the
command from VSA. Be sure the servos are connected properly,
not overloaded, and that servo power is supplied to Mini-SSC.
- The Mini-SSC LED is steadily
on. The Mini-SSC has not received any commands. In
VSA, go to Tools | Settings..., click the "Device Settings"
tab, and be certain the correct serial port is selected. Be
certain that the jumpers on the Mini-SSC are set to 9600bps (see www.seetron.com
for jumper configuration) and that the Mini-SSC is plugged into
the proper serial port.
9.
I lost my copy of VSA. Can I obtain another?
We are always glad to help when we can.
Unfortunately, since we are constantly upgrading VSA, we may not be
able to offer a replacement for your software. Please be sure to
backup your downloaded VSA install files.
10. When I try to set
the COM port, the wrong port is selected.
This bug was fixed in v2.024. The
error is experienced when the first COM port is not "COM1" or the
ports are not consecutively ordered. Please contact TechSupport@BrookshireSoftware.com
for fix and update details.
11. When
converting an MP3 file to RAPU format, the audio is played too fast on
the RAPU.
This bug was fixed in v2.024. The
error is a result of a decoding error in the MP3 engine that does not
properly handle different sampling rates. Please contact TechSupport@BrookshireSoftware.com
for fix and update details.
